What we offer:  DNA Sexing and Specialty Genetic Testing

At Riverside Farm, we’re proud to offer accessible, reliable, and science-based genetic testing designed specifically for bird breeders—by a fellow breeder.

With a background in biology, environmental science, and animal research, developing genetic tests for avian species has always been more than a profession—it’s been a goal and dream I have strived for.  As a dedicated bird breeder myself, I understand the unique needs of fellow breeders and strive to provide practical, breeder-focused solutions that help you better understand and manage your genetics within your flocks.

Our Current Tests Include:

  • DNA Sexing for:
Chickens, Ducks, Geese, Quail, Peafowl, Emus, and more

  • Trait Testing for:
Dominant White, Recessive White, Blue Egg, Lavender, and more being developed regularly

I am continuously working on expanding my lineup of genetic tests so you can expect new and exciting tests in the near future.

How to Collect Samples

Whether you're sending blood, feathers, or eggshells, proper labeling and packaging ensures the best results.

📄 Forms:  These will be emailed to you in a download link when tests are purchased.

If testing multiple birds, only one form needs to be filled out. Just be sure each sample is individually packaged and clearly labeled. Place all labeled bags and the form together in your mailing envelope.

🩸 Blood Collection

  • Add 2–3 drops of blood per bird onto clean paper, filter paper, or directly into a PCR tube

  • Place each sample into its own ziplock bag

  • Label each bag with Bird/Sample ID and breed

🪶 Feather Collection

  • Pull 1–2 feathers from the vent area (must contain the quill)

  • Place each sample into its own ziplock bag

  • Label each bag with Bird/Sample ID and breed

🥚 Eggshell Collection

  • Include a piece of eggshell with membrane

  • Place each sample into its own ziplock bag

  • Label each bag with Bird/Sample ID and breed

Once your samples are received, results are typically available within 1–3 business days. I aim to deliver accurate, timely results so you can make confident breeding decisions.

Whether you’re raising a backyard flock or managing a large-scale breeding operation, I am here to support your journey with science-backed tools and a breeder’s passion. Thank you for trusting me with your birds!
